Mailbox Miseries… Part One

To the unwary eye, the physical characteristics of my mailbox are not easily discerned from the dozens of others lined in sequence. Its formidable bleakness accentuated with only boldface numbers faded from the sun, and a disdainful crimson flag offers little to the imagination.
When I approach my mailbox, a menacing black box of plastic surrender… it evokes in me a calamity of emotions. It harbors distinctness from among the masses adjacent to its very reason, though only I distinguish its flagrant veracity. The mysterious contents folded amid this weathered, store-bought collector wait intolerantly to reveal themselves as it pegs the dirt beneath a peg-leg, austere and resolute. Prevailing and obdurate, it is the self-proclaimed guardian of my street.
It is the sentinel of postal snare.
