Paper Dolls and Houses
Shirt, Boys Ralph Lauren; Skirt and Belt, Vintage; Tights, Hot Topic.
When I started writing-charismatic age 5-I discovered my capacity for words surpassed my tangible love for dolls, albeit their ultra shiny hair and misguided fashion-sagacity screamed from dusty corners. A toy box prophecy, I think that’s when it happened. That’s when I realized I’d rather scribble about a fairytale existence than play with plastic silhouettes and dingy tendrils. But there’s something exhilarating in fallacy, as long as you don’t get caught there. So from the remnants of childhood playgrounds that often appeared more carcass than domicile… a fondness made Mattel and Barbie’s gaggle of friends doubly interesting.
Admittedly, the dressing up is of course, an entirely different story.
Touting a juvenile combination of Laura Ingles dresses, neon tights, bangles galore, and ubiquitously sanctified heels, some things never change… no matter how many ways you turn the page.
